iOS 27 is here with Siri AI, Apple Intelligence upgrades, faster performance and new features. Check supported iPhones and how to download iOS 27.
Apple has finally started rolling out iOS 27, and this is more than just another yearly iPhone update.
The biggest change is Siri. Apple has rebuilt its voice assistant around a much more capable AI system, giving Siri a better understanding of natural language, personal context and what’s happening on your screen. Along with the new Siri AI experience, iOS 27 also brings design refinements, faster performance, smarter apps and new tools for families.
For iPhone users in India, iOS 27 is available from September 14, 2026. The update can be installed from Settings > General > Software Update once it becomes available on the device.
iOS 27 New Features
The biggest reason people are talking about iOS 27 is the new Siri AI.
Instead of behaving mainly like a traditional voice assistant, Siri can now understand more complicated requests and use information from across supported apps. It can understand what’s on your screen, work with personal context and even go to the web for up-to-date information.
Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri experience where users can revisit previous conversations and start new ones.
This makes Siri feel much closer to the AI assistants people have become familiar with over the past few years.
Siri AI
With iOS 27, Siri can understand natural conversations better and perform more useful tasks across the iPhone.
For example, users can ask Siri about something currently visible on the screen or use personal information from apps such as Messages, Mail and Photos to complete a request.
Apple says Siri AI is rolling out in English initially, with additional languages planned later.
Liquid Glass Gets Better
Apple introduced the Liquid Glass design with iOS 26, and iOS 27 continues to refine it.
The new update improves contrast and readability while making the visual effects feel more consistent. Apple has also added a slider that lets users adjust the appearance of Liquid Glass, from a clearer look to a more tinted appearance.
It is a relatively small change on paper, but it gives users more control over how the interface looks.
iOS 27 Is Faster
Apple is also focusing heavily on performance.
According to Apple, app launches can be up to 30% faster, new photos can load in the Photos library up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster in the right scenarios.
These improvements may be more noticeable in everyday use than some of the flashy new features.
More Apple Intelligence Features
Apple Intelligence gets another major push with iOS 27.
The Photos app gets new AI-powered editing tools, including features for reframing images and improving unwanted elements. Image Playground also gets new capabilities for creating more realistic images.
Apple is also bringing smarter tools to Shortcuts, Safari, Messages, Mail and other parts of the operating system.
However, Apple Intelligence features are not available on every iPhone that can install iOS 27.
Compatible iPhones
One of the good things about this year’s update is that iOS 27 supports the same broad generation of iPhones as iOS 26.
The compatible models include:

Apple’s official compatibility list confirms support beginning with the iPhone 11 generation.
But there is an important difference between iOS 27 compatibility and Apple Intelligence compatibility.
Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require newer hardware. Apple’s current requirements include iPhone 16 models and later, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
So an older iPhone can get iOS 27 without receiving every new AI feature.
New Privacy and Child Safety Features
Apple is also expanding parental controls in iOS 27.
Parents can create child accounts with age-appropriate protections, control which apps children can access and manage communication settings.
There are also new tools designed to help parents manage screen time across categories such as games, entertainment and social media. Safari includes an “Ask to Browse” feature that can require permission before a child accesses a new website.
These changes are less flashy than Siri AI, but they could be much more useful for families.
Other iOS 27 Changes
There are plenty of smaller changes across the system as well.
iOS 27 brings improvements to Maps, Find My, CarPlay, AirPods, Home and other Apple services. CarPlay can support video browsing in compatible vehicles while the vehicle is parked, while Maps gets an enhanced Flyover experience using aerial imagery and AI models.
Apple is also adding more control over location sharing in Find My and introducing additional customisation options across the interface.
How to Download
If your iPhone is compatible, installing iOS 27 is straightforward.
Go to:
Settings → General → Software Update
If the update is available, tap Download and Install.
Before updating, it is still a good idea to make sure your iPhone has enough free storage, is connected to Wi-Fi and has a recent iCloud or computer backup.
The update is rolling out from September 14, 2026, so availability can vary slightly depending on the device and region.
Is iOS 27 Worth Installing?
For most compatible iPhone users, iOS 27 is an update worth installing.
The biggest reason is not just the new look. It is the combination of faster system performance, improved Apple Intelligence, a redesigned Siri experience and a collection of smaller changes that make the iPhone feel more capable.
Of course, the most exciting features are reserved for newer iPhones that support Apple Intelligence. Older models still get iOS 27, but they will not receive the complete AI experience.
Still, with Apple now pushing Siri toward a much more conversational and context-aware experience, iOS 27 could be one of the company’s most important software updates in years.
